Pre-mature ejaculation (PME) is defined as ejaculation with the minimal sexual stimulation before, on or shortly after penetration and/or before the man and his partner wishes it. It is a function of the time between intra-vaginal penetration and intra-vaginal ejaculation. If this happens frequently, it can causes distress and problems in relationship. In severe cases, it is characterized by ejaculations either before penetration or soon after that. The reason could be temporary depression, stress, anxiety, a history of sexual repression, or a lack of emotional bonding between the partners and any physical disease can also be the reason. PME early in a relationship is most often caused by anxiety and too much stimulation.
PME is generally regarded as one of the most common male sexual dysfunctions. It is affecting on average 40 % of men worldwide. The World Health Organisation (WHO), 2nd International Consultation on Sexual Health defined it as, “persistent or recurrent ejaculation with minimal stimulation before on or shortly after penetration and before the person wishes it, over which the sufferer has little or no voluntary control, which causes the sufferer and/or his partner bother.
Causative factors of PME?
Premature ejaculation is primarily caused by aggravated vata. Vata with its qualities of quickness and heightened sensitivity to the sense of touch, gives are predisposition towards faster ejaculation, in general persons with the vata constitution cannot sustain sex for very long. When vata is unduly increased in a vata individual, premature ejaculation is common.
A Psychological, emotional factor of nervousness, fear or anxiety may also be involved, but this too in due largely to the aggravated vata- dosha.
Another possible cause is high cholesterol (and the related situation, high triglycerides). In men who have this problem, cholesterol deposits and takes place in the blood vessels of the penis and the entire reproductive system. These blood vessels become thick and narrow (ischemia), so that the blood supply to the muscles of the penis and prostate are insufficient, causing lack of sphincutr control and leading to premenstrual ejaculation.
How to manage pre-mature ejaculation?
Ayurveda has given importance to shukra ( seamen/ reproductive system) as the supreme body tissue, because of its generative property. Vajikarana, which deals with various types of difficulties related to semen or reproductive system in men as well as sterility and frigidity in females. Vajikaraka drugs are helpful in providing strength and vigor to the person along with improvement of reproductive potentiality.
What actually Vajikarana ( aphrodisiac therapy) deals with?
Vajikarana is one of the eight branches of Ayurveda that deals with the preservation and amplification of sexual potency of a healthy man and conception of healthy progeny as well as management of defective semen, disturbed sexual potency, and spermatogenesis, along with treatment of seminal- related disorders in men. Vajikarana promotes the sexual capacity and performance as well as improves the physical, psychological and social health of individual. In Ayurveda, there is a concept of shukragata-vata which can be correlated with pre-mature ejaculation.
